Obviously, popular tunes frequently heard in English sessions have been selected for this book. However, there is a slight bias towards the more exotic and slightly more obscure, alongside some of Mally’s personal favourites. Also, you’ll find several extremely challenging airs towards the end.

With melody, chords and variations, the book is ideally suited for any instrument, but one of the prime factors in the selection of the tunes has been the fact that they sit so happily on the push-pull squeeze-box scale.

Hampshire Dance Tunes
Bob Shatwell and Paul Sartin
Hampshire Dance Tunes: Tunes from a manuscript entitled "R PyLe January 19th 1822" contained in Hampshire Records Library, Winchester. Whist some of these tunes can be found in other current publications, many of them have not seen the light of day since 1822. We cannot find records of the origins of about half the tunes here, despite extensive research on Internet databases and the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library at Cecil Sharp House. This is therefore a collection containing many "lost" or previously unknown tunes.
